Smith started playing sand volleyball at age 14. He played two years club volleyball at UVSC as an outside hitter and played in the club team National Tournament in Toledo, Ohio. Sand volleyball is one of his greatest passions; he grew up idolizing the AVP and always dreamed of participating as a player.
