Formerly Leah Tenney, DeKok was a middle blocker at Georgia State. As a freshman she led the team in blocks and was second in kills and attack percentage. As a sophomore she set the school record for both most block assists and total blocks in a single match. In high school she was a two-time all-state selection in both volleyball and basketball.
